A critical assessment of TS Eliots poem, Rhapsody on a...

Rhapsody on a windy night was written directly after Preludes and echoes many of its themes. Rhapsody... charts the night-time journey of a man through the streets of a city. Held in a trance by the moonlight, he is shown various sights by the street lamps he passes, and these sights evoke images, feelings and recollections. From the sights revealed by the lamps, and the responses they induce, a portrait of the city life is painted. The poem begins by establishing the scene. A man is wandering Along the reaches of the street / held in a lunar synthesis. Although the street is reaching, as if to entrap the man, it is held in stasis by the moon. This idea of the moon having power to release the wandering man from his everyday pattern of†¦show more content†¦The cat slipping out its tongue reminds the narrator of a child whose hand ...automatic / Slipped out and pocketed a toy. This memory reinforces the idea that the people of the city act mechanically, and without thought, or purpose (I could see nothing behind that childs eye). The memory immediately following, however, suggests that there is a strong desire among the people to escape from this state of automation: indeed the narrator has seen eyes...trying to peer through lighted shutters. This image suggests yearning, as does the crab, which gripped the end of a stick, desperately trying to escape its prison-like pool. At last, the street lamp turns the wanderers attention to the moon itself, saying La lune ne garde aucune rancune: the moon harbours no ill feeling. In other words, the moon does not judge, does not play any part in the day-to-day affairs of the people, and does not feel those worries or concerns that constitute the mechanical and empty lives of the people. Teaching English to young learners has become an issue in Indonesia over the last 20 years, since the Ministry of Education in 1994 announced that English had to be taught at primary school from grade four as a local content subject. ‘Local content subject’ refers to a compulsory subject that is not considered a core subject (The Ministry of Education and Culture, 2006). In 2013, a new national curriculum (The Ministry of Education and Culture, 2013) was launched. In this new curriculum students at elementary school are not required to learn English as a local content subject but may learn it as an extracurricular activity (The Ministry of Education and Culture, 2013). This means that English is not compulsory for every student at primary school and students can choose to learn it or not. Moreover schools can choose whether they will teach English. Some research revealed that teaching English at primary level of education is not effective yet (Supriyanti, 2012). Further more, the government has excluded English from the primary school curriculum to reduce the number of subjects that students have to learn. Meanwhile, some educators, practitioners, teachers and parents want the government to keep English as a compulsory subject in the primary school curriculum because they believe it is useful for students to learn English as early as possible. Because promiscuous men cant or dont like women, be subject to state custody, reformers considered that it was time for a new penal code. Public health officials and abolitionists took a few steps toward stopping prostitution. They tried eliminating sanitary regulations that authorized prostitution. Reformers argued that halting the sex trade would prevent prostitutes and those associated with them from participating in a criminal act under the law. But after many years of trying to prevent prostitution officials agree that their plan was inefficient and ineffective. Even experience and statistics demonstrated that. The main reasons that officials intervene in the lives of sexual citizens are for the purposes of protecting public health and the nations future. So I say, if you cant stop people then let women practice free love and attempt to find happiness as men. .
